I do not sell or appraise musical instruments. Please do not contact me to request that I identify and provide background information on a specific instrument in your possession and/or evaluate its worth. That's a job for an accredited professional appraiser, which I'm not. That said, I'll be glad to answer questions and discuss any subject I present here, so long as that one proviso is respected.

Musicians' Relief & Assistance Resources Jazz Foundation of America -- "The Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) was established by a group of caring jazz enthusiasts to preserve the interests of an art Congress recently designated 'a rare and valuable national treasure'-- jazz. By soliciting donations and sponsorships, the JFA promotes cultural and educational activities that build awareness of the music and of the musicians that make it. In an effort to support these musicians, the JFA operates the Jazz Musicians' Emergency Fund (JMEF). This fund assists struggling jazz artists, many of whom are getting older or sick, with medical, financial, and career development needs." The JFA is currently coordinating efforts to support the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic, which, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, has been forced to relocate to Lafayette, LA. "Established in 1989 by The Recording Academy, MusiCares has been helping people across the country cope with personal, medical and financial hardships. MusiCares provides totally confidential crisis intervention, health care referrals and financial assistance. MusiCares' confidential and caring approach allows those in need to seek help with dignity and confidence."MusiCares has set up a Hurricane Relief Fund "so music people impacted by Hurricane Katrina can get help. Assistance includes basic living expenses such as shelter, food, utilities, transportation; medical expenses including doctor, dentist and hospital bills, medications; clothing; instrument and recording equipment replacement; relocation costs; school supplies for students; insurance payments and more." Music Maker Relief Foundation -- "Music Maker Relief Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the true pioneers and forgotten heroes of Southern musical traditions gain recognition and meet their day to day needs. Today, many such musicians are living in extreme poverty and need food, shelter, medical care, and other assistance. Music Maker's aid and service programs improve the quality of recipients' lives. Our work affirms to these artists that we value the gifts of music and inspiration they have delivered to the world.... Our mission is to give back to the roots of American music.... Our criterion for recipients is they be rooted in a Southern musical tradition, be 55 years or older and have an annual income less than $18,000." MMRF New Orleans Musicians Fund -- "Music Maker Relief Foundation has begun this fund as a heartfelt response to aid the New Orleans musicians. Many artists have lost their homes, are living in new cities and are trying to figure out what to do next. This fund has been set up so these musicians in need can get help. Grants will be made for basic living expenses such as gasoline, food, rent, clothing and instrument replacement." Music for Youth Foundation -- "The Music for Youth Foundation (MYF) is a non-profit initiative with two primary missions: To identify, fund and lend our experience to innovative programs that make quality music education available to young people, AND to create scholarship opportunities for exceptionally talented youth who choose to make music their life’s work, thereby helping to sustain the next generation of artists and teachers." New Orleans Musicians' Clinic -- "When the New Orleans' Musicians Clinic was founded in 1998 we had a simple mission. At the time our founder, Dr. Jack McConnell (founder of Volunteers in Medicine, and creator of encapsulated Tylenol) got the commitment from the LSU Medical School dean by asking, 'It's not if you can afford to care for musicians, it is if you can afford not to.' Now, each of us from New Orleans faces uncertainty, each of us shares the determination to sustain our beloved culture which is so underserved: music. And each of us is committed to this mission for the long haul. We not only will settle the musicians and their families in the Lafayette community, but we will resettle them in New Orleans." New Orleans Musicians Help Page -- WWOZ 90.7 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Station has created a page on their website providing information on efforts to provide relief for NO musicians. VH1 Save the Music Foundation -- "The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in America’s public schools by restoring music programs in cities across the country, and raising public awareness about the importance of music participation for our nation’s youth. VH1 Save The Music purchases new musical instruments to restore music education programs that have been cut due to budget reductions in the past or to save programs at risk of elimination due to lack of instruments. The Foundation also conducts awareness campaigns, musical instrument drives and fundraising events. Music education programs have eroded in many cities and communities across the country over the past 30 years. VH1 is dedicated to turning back this trend to ensure all children have access to a quality education that includes music."
